In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

Though I am breaking that a little bit because of the sheer circus going on at the moment.

As one commentator put it, what the current administration is doing to the White House is aesthetically what a meth lab does to a regular house. They've cemented over the back garden, one entire wing has been demolished and is some sort of a "building project" that may never get finished and a cage fighting pit is being built on the front lawn.

And in terms of the concert that was being planned for the Semiquincentennial of the USA 80th birthday of a certain Mangled Apricot Hellbeast, it's like a musical version of the hoky- kokey except everyone immediately jumped out and did not jump back in again, with the possible exception of Vanilla Ice... who as the headliner of anything is just... sad.

Also, we're now in June, which in the US is Pride Month, and I think it's time we got back to more of our roots on S_D and celebrate the hell out of that, because good god almighty do we need to support our local queer communities, more on that shortly.

Quick note that post-by-email and comment-by-email is (sometimes?) failing silently without actually posting right now! I'm pretty sure this is related to last night's shenanigans and will be fixed once Mark can finish the full fix for it, which he's working on, but if you've posted or replied by email in the last 24 hours, fish it out of your sent folder to check if it posted!

EDIT: This should be fixed as of around 7AM EDT! We *believe* everything that was stuck in the plumbing has been sent along to your journal or the comment thread it was meant for; it's definitely not where it was stuck anymore, at least.

DC Defenders: DEFENDERS #1-3

103 of 108. Warning for a sexual situation of ambiguous consent, but it’s one I have no trouble with.

The Defenders got its start with the roster you see here, a poorly socialized quartet that soon earned it the nickname of the “non-team.” The Silver Surfer was more like a satellite orbiting the other three. It reached its greatest commercial success (with a different roster) under Steve Gerber, whose writing was more about indulging his subversive streak than brand reinforcement. This property seems like it’d suit the old JLI team down to their toenails. Gerber might have suggested using other body parts in that sentence. )

Robby has managed to put in a temporary fix for the site errors and things failing to refresh or not showing up where they should! The permanent fix is going to need Mark's experience, and unfortunately -- seriously, this literally never fails -- Mark has been on an international flight all day, because of course he has. (Never. Fails. He and I are not allowed to both take vacation at once.)

The site will work just fine with the temporary fix in place, things just might be a little slow here and there. We'll keep you updated.

We're aware of site traffic issues and are working to fix them for the people who are having problems! (The tactics the damn bot traffic uses are endlessly shifting, and they're really good at looking like real traffic, sigh.)

Good afternoon!

It's the end of May and June is about to start, and that means new goals/plans (whether working on current projects, or moving on to new ones).

So with that said, what are your writing plans for June?
  • Finish and post my fanfic this week.
  • Work on some editing for my fic.
  • Send it out to my beta-reader(s) for a look over.
  • Get some planning/research in for my draft.
  • Write down a rough draft that's been bouncing around for a while now.
  • I'm taking a break/I'm too busy to write right now.
Also, how do you feel about your current writing pace?
  • I'm content with my current pace.
  • I think should pick up the pace on this one.
  • I think I need to slow down for the time being.

Kevin Keller Gets Married!

Hi folks!

Found one of my old posts where the images are still working, so reposting.

----

It's been a while since we last checked in with the "Life With Archie" title. As long-time readers will remember, this magazine showcases the alternate futures where Archie marries either Betty or Veronica. This resulted...somehow...in Hiram Lodge becoming an archvillain. (We've since learned more about what happened to make him that way, and it's a doozy.) Plus a whole host of other subplots.

But today, we're going to look at the main plotline in Life With Archie #16, the marriage of Kevin Keller. This is likely to be a plotline controversial with social conservatives because--

--it's interracial! I'm pretty sure this is the first interracial marriage in Archie Comics, not counting aliens or monsters.

So, how did the happy couple meet? It turns out that even in the future presented here, the US is still fighting a war in the Middle East. :-(

Kevin Keller, war hero )
